Kathleen gave me several heroines to choose from and feel good about becoming who I was meant to be in my own right. And in the end, Erienne is devastated to find it is the strange and secretive Lord Saxton who has purchased her–a mysterious, tragic figure who wears a mask and a cloak at all times to hide disfiguring scars gained in a terrible fire some years back.
But her private dilemma is pushed aside when panic sweeps the town as the Night Rider, a demonic figure with a silver saber, begins a murderous rampage to avenge the burning of Saxton Hall. The Flame and the Flower was rejected by agents and hardcover publishers, who deemed it as “too long” at pages.
She is repulsed by him and thinks him to be scary and even a bit evil. It’s filled with compelling characters, action, adventure and a great love story. Chance the Winds of Fortune. I guess Woodiwiss liked the idea of her heroine getting that type of attention, but for me it got old, and I thought, if anyone, a woman writing this book would put things like boobs aside since she has a pair herself and sees them everyday and they’re nothing much.
She is also stupid not very smart; she rides through the street in broad daylight to “escape” from her father who can totally see her Lists with This Book. His hand, as if on its own volition, came upward from her back and hovered out of range of her vision, as if he yearned to caress her cheek but fought against the urge. The identity of Lord Saxton is blatantly obvious from the moment we hear of him and yet Erienne doesn’t learn of Saxton’s true identity until Saxton himself reveals it.
The writing is laughably bad.
