The 19th-century biographer Otto Jahn gives the following anecdote: Beethoven made his appearance in Vienna as a youthful musician of promise in the spring ofbut was only able to remain there a short time; he was introduced to Mozart, and played to him at his request. Mozart, considering the piece he performed to be a studied show-piece, was somewhat cold in his expressions of admiration.

Beethoven, noticing this, begged for a theme for improvisation, and, inspired by the presence of the master he revered so highly, played in such a manner as gradually to engross Mozart's whole attention; turning quietly to the bystanders, he said emphatically, "Mark that young man; he will make himself a name in the world!
No contemporary document such as a letter written by Beethoven or Mozart or a reminiscence of any of Beethoven's contemporaries corroborates the story, and contemporary scholarship seems reluctant to propagate it.
The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians does not mention it; its account of the visit is as follows: In the spring of Beethoven visited Vienna. In the absence of documents, much remains uncertain about the precise aims of the journey and the extent to which they were realized; but there seems little doubt that he met Mozart and perhaps had a few lessons from him.
In Bonn Beethoven was being groomed to be Mozart's successor by [a group of influential nobles], who sent him to Vienna The sixteen-year-old Beethoven, however, was not yet ready to be on his own. At his father's urging, the young virtuoso left Vienna He wrote songs, and, like today's songwriters, his intention was to write music that would be instantly enjoyable. There's not a moment where he is trying to catch you out or where you have to listen 10 times before you get your head around a song.
He wants you to get it first time; there's verse-chorus, voice and piano underneath, and he wants you to remember the chorus. Schubert came to many of the same conclusions as modern songwriters — that writing random song after song is no use, that creating 20 songs and a journey is a much more satisfying form.
And so that's what he did with his song cycles. They are longer pieces where people go on a journey and each song forms the next bit of the story. The fact is that if you strip that all away and ask what it is he is trying to do, he's trying to write songs about love or, let's face it, unrequited love or trying to get to grips with the mysteries of life — and do so in a way that is instantly enjoyable.
He was a young man by our standards, very young so there is some naivety to the songs and there's a delicacy which, for some people, doesn't fit in with the modern world. But leaving that aside, he is trying to create something that is instantly liked by lots of people and enjoyed by them either in their own homes or in a salon.
Adele's voice and style make her an original. But the chords and sequences she uses have been around for a very long time.
Beethoven and Mozart

Her songs are based on a piano format, with verse-chorus, addressing the issue of love and romance and shaping the voice around that; emotions are expressed; the length; the format — Adele wants her songs to be instantly enjoyed.
He and his music became indivisible: His work sits at the time of a broader cultural movement where artists and poets were doing the same, but what became a musical commonplace was begun by him. Seventies groups such as Yes and Pink Floyd tried to do the same thing and express big ideas in instrumental sections on concept albums.
Generally, Beethoven's impact has been felt much more strongly in classical music than in pop, because he wrote about his emotions without words. When, at the end of his life, he writes his desperately bleak and private string quartets, it's like having a pscyhoanalytic session with him.
But the cult of the isolated, divine or demonic genius — of which Beethoven was the first outstanding musical example — was developed to a whole new level by Berlioz. We have this French composer to thank for the image of the deranged, hair-challenged, isolated composer, one that persists to this day.
He himself was a borderline psychopath at the forefront of the midth century's obsession with doomed love, death and destiny, and wrote music on an epic scale, music that would embrace all of life. A symphony which includes sections written for choir and orchestra.
The earliest and probably best known example of this is Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, incorporating choir and soloists in the fourth movement. Franz Joseph Haydn was born in the Rohrau, Austria, in At age eight he was accepted as a choirboy at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. When he left St. Stephen's inhe became an assistant to Nicola Porpora. Inhe worked briefly as musical director for Count Morzin, and in was employed as assistant music director and then music director for the Esterhazy family, residing at their estate.
He remained with the Esterhazys for nearly thirty years, until During the last decade of the eighteenth century, Haydn made two trips to London. He had been hired by Johann Peter Salomon to compose and conduct six symphonies for his first trip and six for his second Haydn's London appearances were highly successful.
Upon his return to Vienna inHaydn composed some of his most significant choral music. The six masses from this period, composed for Prince Nicholas Esterhazy the son of Haydn's earlier employerand his two oratorios, The Creation and The Seasons, are his most significant choral works.
THE CLASSICAL PERIOD ()
Haydn's total choral output included twelve masses, three oratorios, a passion, two Te Deums, a Stabat Mater, and a few other smaller works. In his later years, Haydn was a celebrity whose works were widely recognized and appreciated, in contrast to the decades spent in the relative isolation of the Esterhazy estate.
He died in in Vienna. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg, Austria, in At the age of six, he could play the harpsichord and violin, compose, and performed in Munich and Vienna. Between the ages of six and fifteen, Mozart was taken on tours of Europe and England, organized by his father, Leopold Mozart, a Salzburg court composer. Although he was away from home more than half of the time, he produced a steady stream of compositions during this period.
InMozart left Salzburg and moved to Vienna, teaching, concertizing, traveling, and continuing to compose constantly. In contrast to Haydn, who worked in the isolation and relative obscurity of the Esterhazy estate for many years and then became an international celebrity in his sixties, Mozart was thrust into international prominence as a child and encountered decreasing public acceptance of his music when he was an adult.
ByMozart's health was failing. He received a commission that resulted in the composition of The Magic Flute. He was also visited by a representative of a Count Walsegg, who commissioned a requiem. Mozart may have believed he was writing a requiem for himself. He died before completing the work, and it was finished by a pupil of Mozart's named Sussmayer, working from Mozart's sketches of the unfinished portion.
